Privacy and cookies

Last updated: 6 October 2026

This notice explains how personal data is handled on errorcodelist.com. It covers browsing the website, contacting the publisher and access to the administration area.

Who is responsible

The data controller is Madalina Moman, Watzmannstraße 12, 71067 Sindelfingen, Germany. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected] or write to that postal address.

Website delivery and technical logs

The website is hosted on a server operated by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestraße 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. When you request a page, connection information is processed to deliver the response. This can include your IP address, request time, requested address, browser information, referring address and response status.

The purpose is to operate the website, investigate technical errors and protect it against abuse. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: the legitimate interests in providing a reliable and secure information service. Routine access and error logs use daily rotation with seven daily archives alongside the active file, normally covering up to eight calendar days. Relevant records may be kept longer where needed to investigate a specific security incident or establish, exercise or defend legal claims; they are deleted when that purpose no longer requires them.

Hetzner processes hosting data on the publisher's behalf. Read Hetzner's privacy information for details about the provider.

Search and links

Search terms are used to find matching guides. They are sent as part of the page address and may therefore appear in technical logs or browser history. Do not enter names, email addresses, passwords or other personal information in the search box.

Manufacturer references and other external resources are ordinary links. The website does not automatically load those resources when you read a guide. If you follow a link, the destination website processes your request under its own privacy notice.

Cookies and browser storage

Reading guides and searching the public website do not require an application cookie or local-storage identifier. Google Analytics and advertising are currently disabled. The website does not load embedded third-party videos and does not offer a newsletter subscription or public comment form.

The restricted administration area uses the necessary session cookie ecl_admin, scoped to /admin. It supports authenticated access and protects administration forms. It is a session cookie rather than a persistent advertising identifier. Administration access expires after 30 minutes of inactivity. Expired session files are cleared during subsequent administration requests.

Necessary administration storage is used under section 25(2)(2) TDDDG. Related personal-data processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, for the legitimate interest in securing the website and its editorial tools.

Administration security

Failed sign-in attempts are limited using a hashed IP-address identifier, a failure count and technical timestamps. This identifier is pseudonymous, not anonymous. Its purpose is to prevent repeated login attempts; the legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. An identifier is removed after a successful sign-in. Entries older than seven days are removed when the next sign-in page request is processed.

Administration account details and editorial records are retained while needed to operate the account, keep an editorial history or resolve a specific security or legal issue. Access is restricted to authorised administration users.

Email correspondence

If you email the publisher, the sender address, message, any name or attachments you provide and technical email metadata are processed to answer your request. Email hosting providers may process messages on the publisher's behalf. Supply only information needed for your question; a page address, model name and error code are usually sufficient. Do not send account passwords or unnecessary confidential documents.

The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, for the legitimate interest in handling enquiries and corrections. For correspondence necessary for a contract or requested steps before a contract, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR applies instead. Messages are deleted when the enquiry is resolved and they are no longer needed for follow-up. Where statutory retention duties or a specific legal claim require records, the relevant correspondence is kept for that applicable period or until the claim is resolved.

Recipients and transfers

Personal data is accessible to the publisher and to hosting or email providers where needed for their services. It may be disclosed to advisers or authorities where a legal duty or a specific legal claim requires it. The public website does not currently send browsing data to analytics providers. Advertising and external media integrations are disabled. Email processing depends on the service handling your correspondence.

Your rights

Subject to the conditions in the GDPR, you can request access, correction, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. If processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it for the future without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal. You do not have to provide personal details merely to read a guide beyond the technical data necessary to deliver it.

Your right to object

Where processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object for reasons relating to your particular situation. Contact the controller using the details above. Information needed to verify and respond to a request will be limited to what is necessary for that purpose.

Complaints

You may complain to a data-protection supervisory authority, particularly in the EU country where you live, work or believe an infringement occurred. For the publisher in Sindelfingen, the regional authority is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information Baden-Württemberg.

Changes

The date above identifies the latest revision. Changes to data processing will be reflected here; any feature requiring consent will need that consent before it is activated.
